Research and Planning: Poster Analysis 1

Genre

* You can tell straight away that this poster is advertising a horror film.
* The colours and the media language play a big part in us being able to tell so easily. For example the colours are very plain but there is that blue tint that makes it seem more spooky and dark.
* The expression of the woman is quite disturbed, whereas in a comedy, body language and facial expressions would be happy and positive.

Representation

* The woman is a young female.
* Because of her facial expression she looks quite out of it and vulnerable.
* Her body language makes her look helpless and unable.
* Because there is no eye contact, it makes the image look a lot more spooky and scary.

Media Language

* The shot shows a mid shot, which ables us to see the hand reaching up for help. This adds to the tension and suspense.
* The colours are very plain and dark which adds to the horror stereotype. In addition, that blue tint gives it a cold darkened edge.
* The lighting is low key but its as though there is a spot light on the young woman that makes her look victimized.
* The font is bold and it sticks with the colour scheme. There is also a drop shadow on it which makes it look more eerie.
* The layout is quite simple but still it has all the stereotypical features of a poster included. For example the name of the film, the main image, main actor name, the cast and crew information and the tagline etc.

Audience

*Because it is a horror film, the main age range will be teenagers, maybe people between the ages 16-25.
* Because the victim is a woman, a female audience would be able to relate to her, whereas the males will just objectify her.
* Most of these people will either be in college, university, have a part time, or full time job depending on their age.

Narrative
* From the poster you can tell that the woman seen, is the one that is the victim. We can see this because the girl has been edited and you can see that she's got problems with her eyes.
* You can also see that there's going to be some form of isolation involved because of where she has been positioned.
