Research And Planning: Poster Analysis 2

Genre

*
Like the other analysis you can tell straight away that the poster is advertising a horror film, because of how effective the media language is.
* There's no brightness in there like you'd see in a comedy, and black is used as the base layer of the image which suggests darkness.
* The mise-en-scene of this image suggests a lot about it's genre. For example, you can see that the main prop is a knife which indicates death which is definitely not something you'd see in a comedy/sci-fi/romantic comedy etc.
* The facial expressions show her emotion because of the shot type they have used which makes it look more serious.

Representation

* It looks like a final girl scenario because of her looking so isolated and vulnerable.
* The woman looks a little older in this poster, but she has been edited to look ill and quite stressed so it makes her look older than what she is.
* With there being eye contact it's as though she's connecting to her audience to show her desperation.

Media Language

*
The makers of this poster have used a close up of the protagonist which allows us to see her facial expressions really clearly.
* The colours are all really dull and it puts a negative feel to the character being shown. The lighting looks really effective because of this, and with us getting a spotlight on her, it makes her look victimized.
* The font is really effective. The blur at the end of the title works really well and gives us an idea of the plot to an extent. It also makes it look really eerie.
* The layout is simple and doesn't have much going on but with the picture being so effective, it makes the poster successful.

Audience

*
I think the target audiences age will be a little higher for this film even though teenagers are the people who watch horror films the most. This may be different for this film because the age of the main character is a little older, so teenagers wouldn't be able to relate to her as much.
* I think that it would be people between 21 - 30 that would go and watch this film the most and again I think that females would more than males because of the main character being a woman.
* Most of these people would be working in a full time job and some may have families.

Narrative

* The title gives a big clue away, especially with the bandage around the victims eyes and the knife over the other one.
* It also shows the impression that it will be a final girl scenario because of her being alone and the framing being quite tight.
